Stress and Pressure From Work: How It Can Affects Your Health And Fitness Goals
Coping with work related stress and the pressure to achieve results can have a negative affect on ones fitness. If left unchecked, stress from work can lead to a myriad of health problems including heart disease, various gastrointestinal problems, strokes, cancer and a weakened immune system. Then there are the negative psychological effects caused by work-induced stress such a depression or over-eating which can lead to massive weight gain. With today's current economy and high unemployment rates, workers are pressured now more than ever to hit company goals and the stress can quickly mount. Therefore, it is vitally important to take action and keep work related stress as minimal as possible. Let's take a look at some great ways that busy professionals can use to ease stress and tension at work.

Talk It Out
Sharing difficulties and challenges that you are having at work with a friend is another excellent way of reducing work-related stress. By discussing work-related issues or pressures that are causing you stress with a friend or loved one, you can get support and empathy from them. You'll also blow off some steam. By talking it out, you might just find the humor in a stressful work situation or find a possible solution to the situation, turning negative thinking into positive thinking.
Get Organized
Maybe you trudge through each day working from task to task but never really accomplishing anything. This will only build stress. Look to create a well thought out “to-do” list, either daily or for the week. You want a to-do list that has realistic goals with tasks that can be driven to completion. A to-do list is great for setting priorities of what work needs to get done and in what order. A to-do list will also be helpful at identifying tasks that are too big or complex for one person to handle and it will signal that you either need additional help on the task or you need to say no to it. Also, as tasks get successfully completed, you'll feel a sense of elation which will equal less stress.
If you have a to-do list but find yourself constantly being interrupted or you lose focus due to your environment, fix it. If your office is full of papers and clutter, get it cleaned up. If you can, adjust the lighting, noise level, temperature and other controllable factors in your office to a comfortable level. Doing these simple things will make the working environment more pleasant and you'll find that your productivity will increase and the stress will decrease.
Outsource What You Can
Maybe the cause of your stress at work is that you are over-committed or unorganized or both. A virtual assistant might be the answer as they can be a godsend for any professional that finds themselves treading water amongst all they have to get done. The biggest positive to hiring a virtual assistant is that they can jump in and perform tasks that are repetitive and time-consuming. For example, if you have some accounting task that is regular and straightforward but very tedious, a virtual assistant can do it for you. This means less work on your plate and less stress.
A virtual assistant will also free your schedule up, giving you time to focus on the important stuff and reducing the “pressure-cooker” atmosphere of the workplace. A virtual assistant can perform several tasks including:
• Desktop publishing
• Putting together presentations
• Booking travel arrangements
• Scheduling
• Word processing
• Transcription and Dictation
• Proofreading and copy editing
• Fax and Mail related services
• Various Web 2.0 services
By using a virtual personal assistant, you can knock a number of tasks of your “to-do” list and get more of what you want to done. This might even free up time to enjoy family, spend more time on hobbies or improve fitness through exercise. All this leads to less stress and a much more enjoyable life in the workplace.

Take A Break
Plan several short breaks throughout the day. During breaks you can grab a refreshing drink of water, sit back to meditate or clear your mind, go outside for a nice walk, or go and chit-chat with a co-worker or friend. The breaks can be as short as five to ten minutes but you'll find that you will return to work recharged and revitalized for the tasks at hand and be more productive in the long run. Breaks will also have the side benefit of reducing mistakes at work as you'll be more focused and have better concentration. From a fitness level perspective, your mind and body will thank you, too.
