The Importance of Correct Form in Training
Ballerinas spend so many years developing their form. This is because they don’t only become beautiful to look at, but they also become more agile and flexible. Just like in ballet, correct form is also essential if you’re doing strength training.

There are a lot of reasons why you have to observe proper form at all times.
Here are just some of them:
You can target the right muscles
A good number of those who go to the gym would just cancel their membership after a year because they’re not getting the results that they want. No, there’s nothing wrong with the machines. The instructors are also highly competent. It’s just that you could be targeting the wrong muscles with your movements.

Don’t think that coming up with exercise routines and even weight lifting techniques are simple. Those who made them have to keep in mind what types of muscles they are trying to work on based on certain movements.
You can prevent yourself from getting hurt.
Misaligned shoulders and painful backs are very common among those who don’t observe proper form. As mentioned, you could not be targeting the correct muscles. So all you feel in return is pain in different parts of your body. What’s more, your muscles and joints could feel too stretched or too contracted with the movements you’ve made. Either way, you could suffer from sprain, strain, and tears. Some can also be potentially dangerous, which may put your life at greater risk.
You can make your energy more useful.
It would surely frustrate you if you realize that with improper form, you’re wasting your energy. You need a lot of it when you’re doing workouts, especially if you’re into cardiovascular and strength training. However, if you don’t have correct form, and you are not working on the right parts of the body, you don’t end up getting the results that you want. In the end, your energy has just been gone to waste. Let’s not forget that you could be spending several hours per day on certain workouts when you can’t expect any positive result later.
You can make your muscles more effective.
When you’re doing strength training, you need force, besides energy. Take, for example, when you’re lifting weights. Force should be directed from your arms to your hands, so you would be able to properly lift the weights and avoid any kind of injury such as tear or strain. When your arms are misaligned, there’s a good chance that you won’t be able to carry the weight properly and execute the exercises poorly.
So what should you do to attain good form?
Here are some great suggestions:
1. Listen to your trainer carefully.
If you have a trainer, make sure that you can listen to every word he or she says. If there are some points that you don’t understand, ask the question; you can even ask him or her to demonstrate everything to you again.
2. Mind your breathing .
It’s important that you can breathe in and out without any hassle when you’re exercising. This is how you can get enough force you need to efficiently perform the strength or resistance training routines. If it becomes a little difficult for you to do so, you may want to check on your form. It’s common to have problems with breathing if you don’t have proper form.
3. Give yourself time to rest.
Just in case you end up tearing your muscles, make sure that you can give yourself a proper time to rest them so they can heal. Once they’re already good, you can then focus on getting the right form.
