If you are a beginner then before you read this just think and make a mind map of your idea of bodybuilding. What do you think it is going to take? How do your picture yourself. I am sure that you are not planning to jump in without a clue or without any planning. You must for sure be having some fair idea of what you want to achieve and how to go about it. If not, then stop and get some planning done first. For most of the beginners, they see themselves spending hours in gym each and every day. They see themselves eating a lot of supplements and going berserk with their diet but Will It Work?
So, what is a perfect bodybuilding strategy?
At the basic level, bodybuilding requires five elements as given below:
It might cross with your established notions of muscle building but then that is how it is.
Lets look at strength training first. Strength training is what you do in gym. If your mind has started running onto number of sets and reps then stop right now. Strength training has very little to do with how much time you spend in gym. It is about how much you spend doing the exercise. It can be accomplished in as little as three-five minutes a day, three times per week and working out one to two muscle groups each day. You can work out per muscle group for say two minutes each day and you have done it. Sound weird? Time to throw of your established notions.
Endurance Training is slightly different. As the name suggest, endurance training is all about your ability to endure. It comes with strength training and aerobic exercises. For most of the people at beginning level, this is not something to worry or think about. If you do other things well then this will come to you almost automatically. So keep going.
Aerobic Exercises, a lot of people think aerobic is for girls or those who are looking for fat or weight loss. It is not essentially meant for bodybuilders. However, aerobics is still necessary. It helps with a number of things like
You can do aerobics on days when you are not supposed to do weight training.
Proper Nutrition, this is an easy guess. Proper nutrition is the first key. If your nutrition is well planned then you will have to put in little efforts in gym and your growth will be much better. There are a lot of articles out here on how to build better diet plan and you can look through them. Just for an idea, you need to be increase both your calorie intake as well as your protein intake. Don't miss out on them. Similarly eating more and more often helps. Supplement your diet with vitamins, minerals and nutrients.
Proper Rest, this one is a tough one to accept. Just the key point that has been reiterated through out the web; your muscles don't grow in gym, they grow when you are sleeping. So take more rest, sleep properly and for slightly longer duration. Your body will respond to it.
If the above ideas cross your established notions and you think that the only way to bulk up is eating more and spending a lot of time in gym, then you are going to be disappointed. Get your basics correct else you might end up with injuries instead of bulging muscle.
